A pre purchase car inspection (PPI) is an independent assessment of a used vehicle’s condition before a purchase is completed. It helps buyers and sellers better understand the vehicle’s mechanical, electronic, exterior, interior and driving condition.

1. What does a pre-purchase car inspection include?
Our pre-purchase inspection covers key areas of the vehicle including exterior and paintwork, engine and transmission, undercarriage, electronic diagnostics, interior systems, air-conditioning, tyres and a road test. The objective is to provide a clearer picture of the vehicle’s condition to avoid surprises down the road.
2. How long does a pre-purchase inspection take?
We typically allocate around 2 to 2.5 hours per vehicle so that the different areas of the car can be checked systematically without rushing the inspection process.
3. Can you check if a used car has been in an accident?
We inspect the vehicle for visible signs of previous repairs, paintwork differences, body filler, panel alignment and other indicators that may suggest previous repair work or damage. However, previous paintwork or body repairs do not automatically mean that a vehicle has been involved in a major accident. Findings are assessed together with the surrounding areas and overall vehicle condition.
4. Do you check whether a used car's mileage has been tampered with?
Where supported by the vehicle, we can review available mileage or operating information stored within different electronic systems and compare it with the odometer reading and overall vehicle condition. However, the information available varies between vehicle makes, models and control modules, so mileage authenticity cannot always be conclusively verified electronically.
Can a diagnostic scan detect all faults in a used car?
No. A diagnostic scan can identify available active, stored or intermittent fault information within supported electronic systems, but many physical conditions may not generate a fault code. Oil leaks, suspension wear and previous body repairs are examples of conditions that may require physical inspection. This is why electronic diagnostics should be considered together with mechanical checks and a road test.
6. Can I be present during the inspection?
Yes. Customers can be present during the inspection, and our mechanic can explain the findings so you have a clearer understanding of the vehicle’s condition and the areas that may require further attention.
7. Do you carry out repairs after the inspection?
Our focus is on pre-purchase vehicle inspections rather than carrying out repair work based on the findings. Our role is to inspect the vehicle, document the conditions observed and explain the findings so that you can make a more informed decision about the vehicle. However if you need repairs, we can always share our repair quotes to you.
